Never cared for reviews.
The movies that got the best reviews are among the most boring ones I've ever seen.
I'm watching it come Saturday!

i have been around enough to recognize certain patterns in dub membership.
for instance there is a very common situation, where a dub gets df, marries a worldy promising never to return, has a kid, gets reinstated, and then we have to console some poor sob who shows up here trying to figure out what the hell just happened to his/her life.
i think i have isolated another common dub type; the weenie husband, whose wife joins, and then he joins too because his wife wears the pants and he does what he is told.
It happens in all realms of life.
When in a partnership/relationship, the stronger of the two personalities will draw the other one in any which way.
Take for example Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes. She'd never looked into Scientology, much less convert, if not for the strong willed Tom. Poor girl! She looks so young and naive.

Never turned in my full scholarships and would've for sure have been a doctor or someone of similar caliber.
DARN!!! But my parents had to go buying into their paradise dream!!!!!!! DOUBLE DARN!!!!!
I'm not doing so bad for myself these days, though. I just know I would've done even better.

after you left the jws and entered your post wts era what sort of things did you learn about them that you found surprising?
there are some recent jws that haven't even heard of russell or even rutherford let alone of their objectionable conduct especially that of rutherford.
or they don't know anything about malawi and mexico, the ray franz incident and the witchhunt of the early 80's, or the organ transplant ban.
I only found out about the UN/NGO and many other characters and behaviors of the WBTS by coming to this forum.
Thanks JWD!

a baby boom .
through assisted reproduction .
nine months earlier, louise had been conceived in a laboratory through a process called in vitro fertilization (ivf).
Even prior to that article, I knew JWs frowned upon/prohibited any form of infertility treatment.
Perhaps if kept hush hush the couple would get out of getting public reprove. However, some type of discipline, loss of privileges, would be applicable for those couples that would seek fertility treatment of any sort. It's quite the strange approach in this day and age we live in.
Another area they need reforming. Soon. Soon!

what is the dumb reason behind that?
is it satanic too like horoscopes and thanksgiving?
Since taking life in the lighter side, I rather enjoy celebrating certain holidays. I cannot conform to their strict views on holidays anymore.
I don't care about the roots of some of these, I just enjoy celebrating. Not going overboard, of course.

just registered and thought i'd say hello.
been browsing the board here occasionally for a while, and thought i might want to join in now and then, so here i am.
for me, a lot of this brings up odd memories from long ago - though for many struggling in the jehovah's witless grip currently, it's clearly a lifeline and i wish it had been around when i was 'doing the fade' (as i've seen it referred to, and a great way to put it, btw) nearly 20 years ago.
Welcome Melmoth!

i received an sms last night from ozzie himself saying on saturday he collapsed and had to be taken by ambulance to hospital.. he is being operated on again this morning (wednesday 29/6/05 australia time).
as usual with the particular operation he is having there are serious risks.
i ask his friends to send anything positive his way today.
I hope everything goes well.

minimus's post got me thinking.
where would i be if i were still a jw?
it's depressing to think about...
If I would've kept my JW religious zeal intact, and based on my previous affiliations and contacts in there, there's no doubt in my mind that I would've been right about now serving in Bethel or perhaps traveling as part of the worldwide construction team.
Quite a few of my previous 'tight' friends that's what they are now: Bethel or doing construction work all over the world.
In this respect, I must admit that sometimes I've regretted having fallen from JW grace.
Sometimes I feel like "who the heck cares if they're right or wrong!", I should've just continued playing their tight 'til I worked up to a high position where I'd never have to worry about having a nice car, lodging, health care, and given the best by all other members. Darn!!! You know how sweet a life all those traveling overseers lead? It's nice, I tell you! Even the misionaries and those worldwide construction workers are all taken care of quite well!
Okay now, let me come off my cloud now. I'm living quite well not and taking care of business on my own.

i see how the wt & awake, km, and other publications are really dumbing down, and never really relay any useful information above a second grade school level.
i wonder just how many writers are needed to write this crapola?
i mean think of how easy it is to research information on the world wide web, and then think of the shitty dumbed down articles that you find in the wt society's periodicals
I notice a lot of repetition and information recycling in the WBTS publications. I'm sure it doesn't take a whole lot of people or creativity to put together their publications.
I could be wrong, though, as I've heard from Bethelites that their writing dept. is quite large in each of their branches.
